Abstract

INCORPORATING MODERN PHYSICS TOPICS IN HIGH SCHOOL USING ASTRONOMY AS A MEDIATOR IN THE TEACHING-LEARNING PROCESS

This research presents the results of a proposal for the insertion of topics of Modern Physics in High School. For this purpose, Astronomy was used as a motivator, showing all the relation and influence between the two areas. The application was made in four classes of the Third Series of High School, a total of 123 students, because they understand that they have conceptual and intellectual maturity to understand the content and execution of the proposed tasks. The contents chosen for this were: Star Evolution, which basically uses concepts of Nuclear Physics; Thermal Radiation and Spectroscopy, basis for understanding the composition of a star; and finally, the Photoelectric Effect, which influenced both Observational Astronomy. It was adopted the investigative method, relating theory and experiment, with the objective of provoking in students a critical scientific sense, providing a broad view of this activity. In general, the activities were integrated into the contents seen in the classroom, with the help of the internet, as social networks in general. There was a strong involvement of students in the proposed activities, and this was clear from the way they performed the tasks. In the end, an educational product was developed in the form of a book, produced from the lecture notes, addressing the main ideas that led to the current understanding of Star Evolution, emphasizing the contributions of the initial discoveries that led to what is known today as Modern Physics.

Key words: Teaching Physics. Teaching of Astronomy. Modern Physics. Curriculum. Problematization in the Classroom. Relation Theory-Experiment. Science and Technology.
